The St. James Board of Trade obtained its charter on March, 19, 1930. It became the St. James Chamber of Commerce in 1950. In 1969, the Assiniboia Chamber, which had been formed in 1959, amalgamated with the St. James Chamber to become the St. James-Assiniboia Chamber of Commerce.

At the 1996 Annual General Meeting the name was modified again to reflect the current reality of the part of the City of Winnipeg that the chamber represents. Our boundaries are those of the Civic Community Committee of Assiniboia, the civic electoral wards of St. Charles, Charleswood/Tuxedo and St. James/Brooklands including the airport area. Our name is the Assiniboia Chamber of Commerce.

2011 recognizes the 81st year of dedicated service provided by our community-based Chamber. We plan to carry on the good work and effective representation of the over 100,000 citizens and 4,000 businesses who live and work in West Winnipeg.
